Richard Plotka

Professor of Practice at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Director of the university’s Information Technology and Web Science

Richard Plotka, Professor of Practice at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Director of the school’s ITWS program, has been retained as a member of Vindow’s Board of Directors, advising the CIO role.

“It is clear that the road to recovery for the hospitality industry will be powered by new technology,” states Professor Plotka. “I look forward to making sure that Vindow be at the vanguard of that effort.”

Professor Plotka provides over 30 years’ experience in the development of IT systems and applications, as well as being one of the foremost leaders in data design, standardization, formatting and transmission. Prior to entering academia, he developed award-winning content solutions for Granular Content Management which he subsequently commercialized as CIO, and later as CEO, of Data Communiqué, Inc. (dba Appatura), an IT company specializing in content management services and solutions.

Always committed to keeping ahead of the curve with current technologies, Rick is also an expert in Blockchain technology and how it can be used for security, beyond digital currency. He currently specializes in research related to Blockchain, Smart Contracts (specifically regarding real-estate and digital music and visual media transactions), ethics in the digital landscape, student loan disruption, and data analytics.

Rick received his BS in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He lives in upstate New York and in his spare time he enjoys spending time with his dogs, carpentry, flying, photography, and scuba diving
